a cat question for the tow of you. I have a feral thats had a litter of three out back in an empty garbage bin. Yesterday I noticed that the kittens' eyes were closed and infected. today they seemed a bit better and hissed at me  when i peeped in. is there anything i can do ? eye drops ? wipe their eyes or something? i hate cats but i'm willing to risk a scratch or two if they actually have a problem.

Samir, if they're hissing at you they're never going to be socialised enough to make great pets, which means if you leave them they stay feral. Domestic cats average 7 native birds/mammals/lizards a day in their gut, with a hunting radius of 1 km. Ferals obviously more.

Sorry to go on, but the best thing you could do for those tackers is take them to an animal shelter where they can get appropriate vet care and half a chance at getting socialised enough to be a passable pet while they're young enough for it to have a chance of working.

Our last family cat had chlamydia (?spelling) in its eyes about that age, similar symptoms, curable with a course of antibiotics.

Gorgeous kittens by the way Scott & DiscusWidow, and it's taking a lot of self control not to take them and have them in the house with the other 2. Good luck finding them homes (before I crack please)!

One of my two cats was a feral child... born in between the garage and fence in my friends backyard. She did not know they were there until they were about 4 weeks old...

I bought little mojo home at 5 weeks (too young but my friend was just going to take them to the pound) with lots of love and care over a few weeks he became alot tamer and stopped hissing.. etc..

he is now about 5/6 years old and although nowhere near as affectionate as our other cat who is 12, he is very happy to lie around the house, accept the odd cuddle, play with the dog and rumble with Alien (our other cat). He is beautiful and the only sign he shows of his feral beginnings is an enormous protectiveness about food... dont try to take his bone... he growls like a dog. LOL

If you are willing to take one on Samir, I say "go for it" , unfortunately I think you will have to take the others to a shelter unless you can find willing takers.

good luck
sammi

ps. discuswidow, your little ones are gorgeous!!!!

I think George and Mildred would love a little kitty of their own hun. But we'd have to get them one each. They're not very good at sharing

DiscusEden, I'm shocked   Aren't piranah illegal in Australia. We'd never have anything illegal.

Little kitties are just soooooooo cute. How could anyone resist those cute faces.

George and Mildred aren't dogs, they're actually fish. You might even say "cat fish"

   Not in the BIG POND!!!!

Poor little kitties! Don't throw them in the big pond!

With the cute silver one - you could call him "silver". Or "kimba". And the cute darker one with the brown spot on its forehead "spot" I think. And the one with the blue eyes "Frank" (sinatra). Also named after my uncle, for ammusing anacdotes about vommiting in the lounge at Christmas, then disclosing it was the cat. Hmmm... kitties with their warm fur and katty breath...
