Hi. I am experiencing this problem.
I have a friend who told me it was alright to on the light for the whole day.
So i usually dont off my lights ever since i started planting for about a month ago.

Initally , the plants were all doing fine and i was feeling great.
however , in a months time , there were dirty brown particles on my plants
and all my plants were all losing their grips on their roots!

What is happening!?
Is it alright to on the lights for the whole day?
Any side effects?

Just like fish, plants need a period of darkness everyday to complete their photo cycle. (I think)

Not to mention saving your power bill!

Hi mate

Generaly, plant tanks should have their lights on for 10-12 hours per day max. When using higher light i would even reduce the full lights on period to as little as 8 hours.

In nature, light is strong but only peaks during the midday period. Plants are only receiving this full light at noon with it tapering away in the afternoon.

Excess light and excess nutrients will lead to algea. Light feeds algea so the longer it remains on the more chance you have of it growing.
