The fish room has had a bit of a makeover in preparation for the arrival of the little altums, and the ten foot Jebo is undergoing a replant.

Thought I'd share the replant with you. The guy you see in the photos is Chris, from Chris's Tank Maintenance. He maintains all my tanks, and as you can see, is doing all the work while I take photos

Have you got any shots of what it was like just before you stripped it down Mez?

Rob, when we first got the ten footer, it was always going to be a planted tank, but the small colony of Geophagus altifrons in the 8 foot discus tank were outgrowing their welcome, so they found a home in the ten footer. Taksan purchased another 7 altifrons, so the tank became home to twelve large, active eartheatersl. No chance of plants now.

The colony of altifrons have been moved to a three thousand litre outdoor heated pond, and so we now have a chance to plant out the ten footer.

This is what it looked like in May of this year, with a large troop of earthmovers determined to rearrange the landscape every day. Just lots of sand, and lots of wood.

Rat, the outdoor pond is heated with a huge spa heater, and pond filters that do a wonderful job of keeping the water sparkling clean.

Taksan will have to fill in the technical details. I just get to feed and play with the fish :P They become very tame in a big pond.

Hi Merrilyn,

Wow thats a nice tank. You should get some great plant growth with the aquasoil in it. Can I ask what type it is? Is that the Amazonia? I am htinking of getting the Amazonia as well since it looks like a nice dark colouration.

Have you thought about putting a coloured background on the back of the tank? I think it would a lot better to hide all the tubing.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, the ADA soil is the Amazonia. Just love the stuff. I've slowly converted all my tanks over to it, and the improvement in plant growth is amazing.

A coloured background is on the way. The tank is 2ft 6 inches deep, and it's not easy to find background the right size :P

Rytis' tank was a Greek theme not Roman, from the architectural marvel of the pillared portico to the hint of the mythological provided by the lurking hydra.
