We are all here for the same thing-our love of fish and in particular the SA ones.
But what kind of things about the hobby get up your nose??
I'll start:(in no particular order)
1. Balloon Rams or anything "balloon"
2. fish cosmetic surgery
3. LFS where you seem to know more than the dude serving you.
4. LFS that over decorate the tanks making it possible for fish to hide and avoid capture
5. Fish that know you are after them and therefore hide and avoid capture
Geez I could go on......

1) A LFS that has deformed fish, poor quality fish or skinny fish that arn't fed.
2) Lfs's with tanks of cichlids that are not named .. Especially the peacocks but it is happening with some other africans ..
3) Cross breeding fish from different locations (Like with the frontosas)
4) Hybrid fish.
5) People that don't respect there fish and believe they can house them in small tanks just because they "May" live ...
6) People that don't research fish properly before buying.
To be continued ...
Nah not really but the enjoyment i get from fish far beats the things that annoy me ... :P

1) Algae in my planted tank!, so far I've managed to grow Black beard algae, Black brush algae, green hair algae, Green spot algae, green water algae, brown algae, blue-green algae, green thread algae......
3) LFS that advertise as "discus specialists" or "large discus display" and when you get there after an hour drive they have 2 discus. Usually a very heavily peppered PB and an emancipated, stunted, football shaped turk with finrot for about $250!
4) LFS that don't properly inform "beginner" fishkeepers - Example I've watched a Mum, Dad & Child come into a LFS and pick out a couple of juvi oscars, as well as 1 or 2 of various other fish then buy a standard 2 foot tank & stand combo..... poor oscars never have the space they need!
5) lack of meds available over the counter in australia (like Metro for hex etc...)
6) Water spills
7) Male discus that don't know what to do
8) Algae.....
I could go on too LOL :lol: :lol: :lol:

1. really unhealthy suffering fish at the LFS
2. trying to capture clown loaches (THEY ARE FAST)
3. water changes, they get annoying i rkn.
4. cleaning filters, just a pain in the bum undoing the cannister filter then doing it bak up again, plus i didnt really think to leave enough hose to make it easy!!!

1. LFS that tell you over the phone about their discus shipment of fantastic fish. When you get there they're ugly. (I'm with DIYjunkie on that one);
2. People that mix goldfish with discus (it happens). These people should be shot;
3. LFS that sell fish that are clearly not well and look close to death;
4. Breeding pairs that constantly eat their fry;
5. The endless search for the perfect discus;

I’m one that enjoys the more positive aspects of fish keeping...
Such things as: algae, cleaning filters and spilling water are all part of it and just need to be accepted.
There will always be in this country unhealthy fish in LFS’s…But as hobbyist’s we recognise this we can change how LFS operators keep and look after their fish by simply not buying them and bringing it to their attention.
There is No other hobby that I would rather have than fish keeping!

Getting zaped from water spilt on a powerboard :shock:
Cleaning filters are a pain in the @$$ and are always dirty as ..
Buying fish that look healthy but when u get them home they have lots of things wrong with them..
Poor lighting at LFS so you can't pick out small things wrong with the fish you want to buy..
W/C are also a pain
Also not being able to keep heaps pf tanks in the house :lol:

Algae, algae and more algae. I can grow beautiful algae. What a pity there isn't a market for it.

1. Virtually no nice fish in any of my LFS ( the fish that I keep)
2. The price (fish & acceseries) unreal.
3. During my work day, come home & found fish food in a fishless tank :?:
but the most at the moment is My wife face exspecially the eyes when I come home with fish tank or tanks.... :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

I'd have to agree with the general consensus here that
1) Changing Water
2) Cleaning canister filters
3) and algae
Are all downsides to fishkeeping. But nothing is perfect, and these are a small price to pay for the enjoyment I get out of the tank.
My fourth would be
4) Exhorbitant prices for property so I cannot have a big house with TONS of fish tanks (there's just so much you can fit in a unit!).

Discus that eat Eggs and Eggs that fungus.
I know how to fix the Egg Eating (I just cage them), but does anyone have any suggestions regarding Eggs that Fungus? It is driving me batty - the Eggs are Fertile, but they just develop Fungus over them.
PH is 6.8, 50% water changes everyday with Prime added but still this dreaded Fungus over the Eggs. GRRRRR :evil:
Help!

i also hate algea, and waterchanges, wish i could just hook it up to the sink, and just turn on water, and it fills the tank, and removes the same ammount, so that it would be faster and easier..
i also hate it when my plants go brown and transparent..
and my pair is eating the eggs all the damn time now, they did not do that in the beginning...
but i'll try and cage now, they lay eggs 1x a week or more now.

I hate seeing images on the net of all these beautiful fish you can get readily and cheaply anywhere else in the world but I can't get here in Australia.
I hate having pass on a fish that sells for $5 in the USA only because it sells here in Australia fo $700.
I also hate sardine cans which you have to open with one of those keys, and the little latch thingy breaks before you get a start on it ... I hate that with a passion!
