Hello, sorry if this has been asked before but my 2.5year, overused, Resun AE-308 packed up today and I am looking to replace it.
On my 189L tank I was using the Resun and an Aqua One CF 700 (http://www.aquariumproductswholesale.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=495) and filtration was fine but not optimal. I do 2 x 30% WC/week and I have 5 juvenile discus, 20 neons, 4 corys.
Would I be ok with the current filtration I have (bare minimum) or would I be better off investing in another canister filter. I do have a spare internal filter (Resun) but the flow rate disturbs the water for the discus too much and its really not very efficient (just a sponge). More like a powerhead than a filter lol :).
Does anyone recommend any particular "economical" brands, or am I fine as I am?
*I currently have the spray bar on the back wall facing the front glass, should I position it to spray from one side of the tank to the other? Sorry I cant take any photos, 'misplaced' the camera charger :P.

I would go with a Fluval 305, which can handle up to 70 g tank. Your 40+ tank will be perfect for it.
I have a 304 and 404, which work fine. 404 is a bit noizer than 304 but it is bigger anyway.

Get a Eheim 2217 .... vastly superior to any Fluval 04/05/06 or whatever they are called these days.

He was asking an "economical" brand. Otherwise, I would go for Eheim instead of Fluval.

Hehe yeah, Eheim are a bit out of my range, would love to have one though :).
When the time comes I think I will either go with a Fluval, or just another Aqua One CF700 to supplement my current one. Thanks for the advice guys :D

Sorry another question:
What flow rate should I aim for on my tank (189L) is 700L/H- 3.7... x the tank volume enough; or should I aim for more? Do you guys think the Aqua One CF700 that I currently have is enough to support my tank, or should I definitely be looking to add another canister of some sort?
TIA :)

A Ehiem 2217 is cheaper then a Fluval 405

Fluval 405 will be too big for the 189l tank, 305 will be better for it and cheaper.
Ehiem 2217 is rated for up to 159 g tank, kind of too big for the 40+ g tank he has.
Maybe something smaller from Ehiem comparing to Fluval 305? If they are in a same price range, even a bit more, I would go with Ehiem for sure.

Mate i have run for the past year a aqua one CF 1500 cannister on a 4ft tank ...
I've had no problems what so ever, and would definantly buy another one if i needed it ... Yes i don't have a doubt that the ehiem are better, but when you look at how much a aqua one filter costs, it definantly does the job for me ... :D
Matt- You need another filter on your tank as it is abit crowded, and it will be worse in 12 months time ... :P

I'm now leaning towards the Eheim Classic 2213 now lol, as I have found a good price for it  . I need to earn a bit of cash to fund this purchase first, but I will update the thread once I finally get myself a canister of some sort! Thanks so much for all the expert advice given guys! :D

So what did you finally end up doing? Did you get the eheim? I have two eheims going on my 125 gallon cichlid tank along with an aquaclear 110/500 and it has worked out well for the last four years. I also have an eheim 2215 going on my 46 gallon discus tank along with a penguin 170. Again no problems.

I think I am going to get an Eheim 2213 from the new online dealer once they're available, and add that to my tank to go along with my Aqua One CF700. I do 2 WC/ week so I think that should be ok :). Thanks again for all the advice guys!
