Here's a pic of my Peruvian angel. I just love the reddish/orange tinge in its body.

Oh yes, that's lovely.
My peruvians don't have as much red/orange colouring, but have the same dished nose, and erect fins.
I guess the colouring is determined by the area they come from. Gorgeous fish.
Where did you get it from? It's looks very familiar
Fantastic photography too :P

How are peruvians to care for, are they much easier than Altums? And what sort of price range?

Thanks guys.
Merrilyn - I purchased 5 from an LFS which had them labelled as "Pene Angelfish". I've never heard of Pene angels, but i knew they looked different to the P.scalare, so i bought them. Bloody cheap they were.
Guess i was at the right place at the right time.
I'm not too sure on price, any one else know?

Pterophyllum dumerili is now classified as Pterophyllum leopoldi.
They have quite a distinct shape with a black dot under and behind the dorsal. A rather distinct looking angel. None of the fish shown are P. leopoldi.

i beg to differ on that one mate
lepoldi have red dots up and down the second half of there body the first pic posted has exactly that trait
peruvians on the other hand have a very straight two tone color
i have seen all these angels day in and day out as they all used to come into AI where i worked
i have recently seen lepoldi and they look nothing like dumerellis
dumerellis are beaked angels with the coloring of an altum
lepoldi have red spots and patterning on there bodies not to mention have an extremely dished face
two differant traits in my books and i am sure other will confirm

I'm not sure about what goes into AI and what AI listed or even the trade has isn't necessarily correct. But the naming is an icthyology field. Scientist deemed that the dumerili is made redundant and the new name, leopoldi replaces it.

Here is a link on taxonomy. You will notice that there are only 3 species
of the genus Pterophyllum.
http://www.itis.usda.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=169844
Some of the older books will use dumerilii. And this trade name is still used amongst exporters of fish. Old habits die hard and there are still people running around using Haplochromis to describe varying species of cichlids.

Debate aside, the Peruvian angel is stunning. There were some Peruvians in Melbourne going for about $20. I may have to grab some when they are next available.
It's amazing how breeding different patterns can be interesting and then after a period, people revert back to the orginal shape and colours of the fish. Mother nature knows best. :)

Vien.

Ahhhhh thought I recognised the quality of the work.
Novafishy if this pic was taken by enigma, then it is only right and correct that he is acknowledged as the photographer.
It is also polite to ask his permission to post his work.
Please attend to this. Thanks.
