I found this link on treating discus. Two points that jumped out are: lower the temp to 80 to 82 F and do not change water. Now, that's not what I've read here. Any thoughts?

Do you add any meds or do anything at that temp?
I always thought the higher the temp less parsites etc can live ..
I know for treating with Trichlorofon the temp should be around the 25 mark.

sometimes people lower the temp to try and slow down the really bad nasties that will speed up at higher temps and can cause the fish to retire before you have the chance to fix anything. i dont know how common this is in discus keeping though.

dropping temps only stress the discus out more than what it has to
the only thing that will speed up in higher temps is white spot and velet but if you speed it up and have medication in the tank the white spot and velvet goes through its lifecycle alot quicker when the cysts burst to spread ther prodginy there greated by medication
therefore your fish have it for a shorter period of time
