try get something that has at least 12X optical zoom and raw format. try shopbot.com.au. i use the canon s21s but its a bummer in low light. The one that Tara uses for those amazing pictures is available here but you're looking at a grand minimum.

Great camera that takes amazing photos.
I'm not sure if it's still sold as it's about 18mths old but what ever replaced it will most likely be better.

i recently bought a panasonic ummm lumix. its 5megapixels with 10x optical zoom. It has a bunch of features and settings and is reasonably priced around $500. It has the lithium battery and also the sd card which is most common and of course cheapest. When i was looking for a camera lithium was a must and also the sd card. I wanted a lot of zoom and not a bulky camera so it wasnt like i was lugging around some heavy weight. I found this to be the perfect combination.

I've got a Nikon Coolpix 4300 with an extra water housing for diving and surfing photos (yes, and some inside tank shots) and also the Nikon D50 Digital SLR. Great camera for scenery and closeups aswell. They were a great combo for my rafting trip in Canada last year.

If I knew how to decrease the size of the files I'd post some up. They are all around 1.5meg

Whats a good program for reducing the size of photo files or should it be in the software that came with the cameras???

open with paint

or microsoft picture manager! easy as pie

in paint for example select image stretch / skew then reduce percentages by say 50%

for those who like free alternatives to microsoft, try Picasa from Google:

Well I have a Kodak digital 4 megapixel, 10 x optical zoom, and a reasonable macro with a range of 12cm, cost about $500 and does a great job, use it daily. The software that comes with it, Kodak Easyshare is good for storing your pix on your PC, with easy to follow burning facilities, emailing, creating albums etc etc.

To get good results with picture resizing, cropping, compression, colour, contrast etc etc etc I use the Microsoft Picture Manager that comes with Windows XP Professional, easy to use and quick.

twould be one of three different cameras.

Main is a Canon 20D with any lens from 12mm to 600mm depending on what I'm shooting at the time.

Second camera is a canon powershot S80

third is a canon powershot SD450
