Always a beautiful sight when you see parents tending to the babies and I think for discus lovers and others, it is a magically moment. I can't wait to see the pictures of them leading their babies around the aquarium.
Looks like a pigeon blood, Chris.

Vien.

Wed Aug 23, 2006, 12:20 PM
you will get mostly striated babies some will be like dad some will be more like mum with there atterning but i think the pigeon gene is more dominant correct me if im wrong people
so you may bget more coloured like dad im assuming
but i could be wrong it all comes down to what the parents blood lines are
cheers

Any guesses on what babies are going to be? I'm new to it all and dont have a clue. lol
I would say 25% clean pigeons, 50% heavily peppered pigeons, 10% turks, then 15% will look like mum with maybe a few more striations ..
Of course you can expect the odd oddball fish though .. LOL
HTH

Lets hope the 50% heavily peppered ones didn't make it :)

Thu Aug 24, 2006, 09:07 PM
Yes lets hope for that, but you will get some heavily peppered ones and IMO the majority should be culled if they have what you think is too "much" peppering ..
PS- I cannot guarentee that you will get the % i have said ... :P

If I gave them to my kid if he was interested that could be classed as cruel. LOL

Each to their own ... :P
I say improve the strain and get rid of the not so perfect ones ..
If there was someone who was starting out and wanted them fair enough give them away ! :D
Or sell the to the LFS .. its up to the breeder what they end up doing with them ..

Hi Tara, well done. This being your first spawn, I'll bet you keep them all
Now, I'm not going to guess at how many will show peppering. Too many variables to try to do any sort of calculation. But it's certain you will have some with peppering.
The commercial breeders have been culling heavily and only releasing the 'clean' fish, but they may well have come from a spawn with lots of peppered brothers and sisters.
Just wait and see. You have months before you have to make any decisions :P

Very nice!
Amazing how fast babies can grow sometimes. And the daily waterchanges help, lol.
They're looking healthy, lets hope something interesting comes from their patterns.
Cheers,
