There are many peat products out there. The thing you should check first is if the product has any fertilisers and in some cases anti-fungal agent added to it. If there is any stay away from them for aquarium purposes.

Oh and by the way...the peat bricks in Bunnings arent peat...theyre coconut fibre. Dont put this in your tank.
Peat is tough to find, youll probabaly have to order some in through a nursery.

As Noddy65 saidn dont use the so called peat bricks from Bunnings, they are only coconut fibre. You can buy a product called " black water extract " from most fish stores and that is much the same as using real peatmoss and 100% safe.

Big W had bricks of some New Zealand moss, i tried it once it did lower my ph a bit, now i dont bother, i'd recommend the blackwater extract too much less fuss.

Sera Super Peat granules are the best I've used. Only about $10 from APW.
I'm experimenting at the moment with some Killarney Peat from Bunnings as a layer under some sand. The few plants that I have in there seem to like it. So far it hasn't done squat to the ph which is really what I wanted it to do. Cheap though. Only $5 for a big bag I think
