discus and onyx sand ?

I am thinking of useing onyx sand in a planted discus aquarium ,but someone told me that onyx would raise the ph to much is this true ?

I have read on other posts that people have sucessfully used it with discus. It will initially raise your PH but after a while it will settle and will be fine.

Discus can handle a wide PH range as long as it is stable.

what do you mean by onyx sand? Are you talking marble chips type sand?

I was refering to seachem onyx sand . They recommend it for planted aquaria . It has a buffering effect on the water .I was told this would raise ph , making it unsuitable for discus. Would this buffering effect slow down as it got older ?

Idon't know what Seachem use as their base. I have used a sand made from marble chips. It isn't causing any pH problems for me although it is very alkaline. I do have it in a 683 litre tank.

Just be aware that Seachem's onyx sand is actually a light silvery-grey colour in the tank.
