Hello there,
I'm sharing the pics of the lay-out change a few days ago. My tank has got 500 liters and was developed to the welfare of discus fish. I'm not interested to plant densely. I hope you enjoy it.

Nathan,

I put them in another tank, with the same water, and did the job faster as i could. I did not have problems with the water parameters.

That black substrate is called here in Brazil "basaltic sand", and don't causa interference in ph and gh.

thats a really nice change you have made! I was initially skeptical about a black back ground and sand but it really brings the colour of the fish out.

In relation to your pigeon blood strains can you update us to if the peppering ( if any ) has developed due to the change of background and so on.

Makes the colours of the Fish look really bright. I like it, very effective.

yea itd be interesting what happens with the peppering of the PB's i think theres been a thread on the forum about it an not sure if it came to any conclusion.

Plus i would like to maybe look into a black background for my tank but was worried about it makin the PB's pepper more

yeah i had a bare bottom tank to begin with, after i added black substrate my pigeons started peppering after a few weeks and blue diamonds went dark. But it is still a nice set up.

Ever notice in fish shops they tend to have a darker gravel, apparently it makes the fish look more vibrant and i think this is a case of it showing. Looks great :thumb :thumb

just curious as to what substrates you have used in those different layers?

Nathan, i didn't note any change of ph.
The substrate used was 15kilos of flora base (red sea) on the bottom, and on the top the black sand basaltic, something like 80kilos. I noted too that the colors of discus increased. 8-)
