Hi All
Just hoing someone can let me know If you dont have a hydrometer what is the does rate per litre for marine salt. Can you let me know in teaspoons or a basic measurement as I don't have scales or a hydrometer. I was told 25grams/litre but how much is that in quantity?

Hi Robin,

What are you trying to achieve? If you want to know what amount of salt to add to a Discus tank for medicinal purposes it is usually 1tspn per 40 litres. If it's setting up a marine tank I'd be off to my local LFS armed with $7 or $8 and buy a lower end of the range hydrometre. As my son loves dropping them I only ever buy the cheap ones and they work just fine.

Also, if you're adding it for medicinal purposes, you have the wrong salt.

Don't use marine salt in a freshwater tank. Look for aquarium salt. API make some and it comes in a white/pink milk carton for about $8

when i hatch brine shrimp i use 1/2 a hand full in a 2 litre vessel.

use 2 slightly heaped tablespoons per litre of water!

too easy!
