Just wondering whether I can get a few ideas on how to transport discus in the car/ute? We live about a 3 hours drive from SLS and from what I have read on this forum that looks like the place we will probably buy our first lot of fish from so we just need to know how to get them home safely.
One more thing When they get freighted from interstate how do they generally do that? :? :) :)
Thanks
Norto.

Discus should be packed one to a bag for all but the smallest fish. Large fish are always 'double bagged' as they have sharp spines on the dorsal fin. Ask the shop to fill the bags with oxygen for you, and so long as they are kept warm, they will be safe for 24 hours.
Take an esky with you, or ask to purchase one of the used foam shipping boxes from the aquarium shop.
Fish are shipped in these foam boxes all over Australia, and indeed all over the world, quite safely.
Keep the lid tightly closed till you get home to keep the warmth in and keep the fish calm.
Good luck.
Getting your first discus is very exciting :P

If your lucky u can get some foam boxes from coles or woolworth/safeway supermarkets for free if you ask them, they get thrown out anyways. It is not like they are gonna put them on a Coles Catalogue (https://www.catalogueau.com/coles/). The foam boxes are used for transporting vegies like broccoli. Recently alot of the vegies are getting transported in plastic unicrates so it might be hard to get them now days.
