I have had 5 discus for the last 18 months, no additonal fish added in that time. I noticed this evening a small white worm climbing up the glass. It was very thin and about 6mm long. I have heaps of snails however never seen a worm before in the tank. I do add plants every 5-6 weeks. I have never seen worms in the discus poo and the discus still look nice and plump.
what do you reckon !

its planaria most probably. you can control them(and most other problems) by siphoning out any leftover food and vacuuming your gravel. also i would recommend feeding frozen bloodworms and maybe discus dinner or something like that for a more varied diet. if the poop is black and not stringy then you probably dont have worms.

Yeah sounds like the typical worm caused by over feeding. Totally harmless but a good sign you need to vacume your gravel and stop feeding so much.

I thought frozen bloodworm would create too much mess in my planted tank. I will increase the gravel vacs

just give them a litte bit. they usually polish it off in seconds.

I find gravel vacs in planted tanks to be a little more complicated but all the more necisary. Might I make a suggestion to your substrate. One of the aquafauna specialists a couple years ago in Aquaria China suggested that by laying a thin layer of regular gravel over the clay helps tremendously. The root base would be in the clay and if you do a vacume you vacume the gravel layer leaving the flora base alone. Hope you can use this idea to your advantage.

I'll give it a good vac this weekend. Off topic however you reckon I can add 10 small cardinals in one go. I have 200 litres with 5 mature discus, however I'm getting bored. Looked at a bigger tank in coburg this week 390 litre at $2,200, really nice akva stabil...maybe if I add the cardinals it will put off any larger purchases.

You could add the cardinals - they will give you some instant colour - another interesting little fish is the Rummy Nose tetra - they stick together in a little school and are fascinating to watch, and they won't worry your Discus.,

Marg.
