Are they Pterophyllum s. altum?
Definately not altums, but the parents are huge fish, much larger than the domestic angel.
For now, I think we'll just call them veiltail zebras. Very prolific pair. I have just removed 100 fry from the parent tank, and they have around 300 eggs again.
Lovely photos Mark. They're growing well. :P

Ben I could not agree more mate.
Those albino's are awesome.. I really like the white or negative barring on them ( if thats how one describes it )
Thanks for making me jealous.. I'm happy with my gold's but I NEED albino's as well, the barring has caught my eye...
Also I'm keen on some nice half blacks/browns veils.
These Angels could be a dangerous addiction IMO..
How many albino's did you get ?
Cheers,
Mark

Wed May 24, 2006, 01:30 PM
Hiya Mark!
They are very addictive indeed!
I picked up 1/2 dozen of them.

They are cheap as chips!
Will catch up with you soon mate!

They are cheap as chips!
I sure will, very tempting : )
Have you noticed any more than the usual amount of aggresion from them in comparison to the ones from LR ?
I have 3 of the Angels I got from LR with the spot just behind the eye and on the upper part of the gill plate....
I see you have some with that marking aswell.
I sure hope I can get a pair that both have that spot...
Four eyed veiltail zebra angels   ???
It's all good I am just a little insane !!

Cheers
Ben
Yep we sure do....
I know they are not the most expensive fish and are not recommended to be kept with discus.
But to see six or more angels ( well bred ) in a large enough tank and of the same variety is an awesome sight.....
We need good info and discussion so we can select and breed some good Aussie stock..
Plenty of cheap and nasty angels around with missing ventrals and other defects.
I think a forum to improve the general knowledge of this magnificent species will lead to some wonderful angels we can all enjoy....
Just imagine 6 well bred angels and a shoal of Congo tetras or bleeding hearts how good that would look ? Especially in a planted tank.
The only real drawbacks to these guy's is poor quality and not being the most suitable tank mates to the king and their enjoyment of chasing down and munching smaller fish ( like neons ect... )
Lets just hope some other interested people speak up....
In the mean time I guess we can just do our little Angel threads from time too time...but it's not going to get all the bit's of conversation and discovery in the one place....
Cheers,
Mark

Looks like they are off to a fantastic start then.
Please let me know if you are at all prepared to sell some on.
I would ideally like to get twelve but would be more than happy for six of those beauties.
Great pics and fantastic to see some more good Aussie bred angels being bred and raised with heaps of TLC.
I will post up updates of the ones I got from Ladyred some of them are huge.
How good would it be to pair up one of yours and one of Ladyreds offspring ?
It's probably taboo to suggest it !! But I can't see the harm : )

Mark you've done a great job with them. That's very early for them to be spawning, so they must be very happy with the conditions.
By the way, I tracked down the origin of these fish. By a remarkable coincidence a friend discovered the name of the gentleman who imported the wild parents of my pair. They were imported as wild caught "peruvian altums" and the gentleman raised a spawn from them. One pair from that spawn was sent to Melbourne, and I was able to purchase the pair from the lady who bought them.
That makes my pair F1 peruvians and your fish F2. Any fry you breed from them will be F3.
I knew they weren't just normal domestic zebras. They were far too large and had a dished nose, same as I see in photo of your spawning pair, but it's great to be able to actually track down their history. :P

yes! Angelforums.com Ho!
I'd join, our angels are nothing special, one poor thing is half-blind, but I love them, IMO if Discus are the King, Angels must surely reign as Queen! The Agression, for starters, Angels rule discus, surely that makes them Queen To a Discus King?
*smiles*
See you there!
