another way around it is to make a little box lined with foam. the added advantage to this is that the intake air is filtered this way, too.

The eheim air pumps are silent and very powerful for there size.
Overall I would recommend Eheim, Steller & Schego

I have just bought this and found it absolutely silent. Made my old one sound like a freight train.
There is a one outlet model as well - the #100.
They come with an airline (not very long though) and airstone and you can adjust the airflow to suit.
Am very impressed with Eheim...

I'm with Del on this. Love my new Eheim air pump. Two outlets, both fully adjustable, and it's silent. The airstones with suction caps are a nice little bonus.

im using 2 stellar air pumps, one just for an airstone the other with a double output for airstone (water ageing tub) the other for sponge filter, for its size an especially price really powerful an really quiet

I just read this post sorry to late but for your next pump by a Eheim.
I have both W60 & eheim 200 & 400 the stellar is good but not totally silent but both my Eheim are.
