Hello,

Our names are Heidi and Trent and are located on the Sunny Gold Coast. About 10 years ago we fell in love with the discus. Throughout the years we have had discus pair off and lay eggs in the community tank, nothing eventuated as the other fish always got to the eggs before they hatched.

Early 2005 we decided that we might give breeding ago, but instead of jumping head first into breeding discus, we decided to start with bristlenose catfish.

Throughout 2005, our garage turned into THE FISHROOM and whilst most of our tanks are filled with 100's of catfish, we have recently had success in breeding Electric Yellow African Cichlids.

We have just finished building our new breeding stand which houses 7 new tanks and we now believe that we are now ready to start breeding discus. We have 2 breeding pairs from the community tank and have purchased a breeding pair of brown discus.

We are happy to have found this forum as there seems to be a lot of friendly and knowledgeable people to share our experiences with.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Heidi

Lovely photos and lovely fish. A very warm welcome to the both of you.

There are a lot of very friendly people on this forum, and everyone is always willing to help, so ask as many questions as you like.

Love the little catties by the way. Is that pumpkin they are eating, and do you blanch it first?

Thanks Merrilyn

Yes, that would be pumpkin. I freeze the pumpkin for 24hrs and then place it in the tank. I also feed them zucchini and lettuce, aswell as algue wafers and brine shrimp pellets. Our breeding colony is producing about 100 babies a month and they are ALWAYS hungry, which means plenty of water changes and gravel cleans.
