Hi all, Im planning to DIY gravel cleaner. BIG ONES. Those gravel cleaner sold at LFS are too small and it takes me ages to clean my big tank. So I decided to make one.
Does anyone know where to buy the clear tube from ? Im looking at about 50mm diameter.
I looked at bunning warehouse and mitre10, they dont have them. They only have PVC pipe. I prefer the transparent tube so that you can thru it.
Will make this with 20mm hose, so faster water flow.
Thanks in advance.

Dr V:
What is the lid for?
Can you do a step by step demo (like in a Cooking recipe for us Ladies    ) -
Ingredients First (and measurements of ingredients etc.)
Method (how you put it together)
and end Result (no, not a baked Cake - a homemade Gravel Siphon   ).
I know that most of you guys just go oh yeah, do this, do this, do this, but for the benefit of all of us who aren't really up with plumbing, a step by step story would be great.
If it's not too hard i might even try to make it myself.,
Regards,
Marg.

The round rubber is too big, so you need to cut around it.
Then attatch it to the "thing" :?

The PVC pipe is 1 metre long, but I cut down to the required length.
I use 20mm hose. Gravel cleaning never been much faster like this :P
All this cost me under $20 from bunning warehouse + hose ( depends on how long you need the hose )
Any comments, negative or positive will be appreciated.
Thanks :) :D 8-)

Dr V,
That looks great - yes, I was posting at the same time as you by the looks of it.
Looks really easy to make - I think that even I could make it (and that's saying something!!) - I'm off to the Local Bunnings Store.,

Marg.

Dr V,
No plans on making this a "jiggle" style or self syphoning model???
Great work by the way.

Wish I could post photo's on this forum! Where are the instructions?
Anyway Dr.V I have a clear version of this purchased at Country Vic LFS for about $10- Its about 60cm long and 5cm in diameter. I also wanted to mention that Clark Rubber sell "clear" piping by the metre (in lots of sizes) I bought some and extended the gravel siphon so it goes straight into the garden rather than buckets.

Thanks for the run down on the gravel vac Victor!
It’s great to see DYI things that work efficiently and have a good cost.
Cheers

WHAT ??????? Did you mean the clear hose or the clear pipe ??? Coz I tried look at Bunning, and they dont have the clear pipe.
With the hose, you easily find in the garden section.
If you can find the clear pipe, I might get some from you.
Thanks
