I've heard that too and one of the vets (apparently the fish vet here in melbourne, every other vet mentioned to get in touch with him, can't remember his name off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure I contacted him through the Canterbury vet clinic when I was trying to get some Metro) working for the fish quarantine in Epping here in Melbourne says that bloodworms are no good for discus. I accidentally said I fed my fish bloodworms insted of blackworms and he told me to lay off them because they can cause intestinal blockages and lesions in the digestive tract because of their hard bits. Blackworms on the other hand are ok.
slightly off the subject, here's an interesting article on marine bloodworms
