Anyone used them ? what do they think ?

I know someone who tried making one, it seemed to work out ok until there was a build up a sulfuric acid (something to do with an incorrect flow rate) sadly a lot of fish were lost and they now use a commercially built denitrator (same one that I have used for the past 9 months AquaMedic 1000).

There are articles around online where people have had success with them, I guess it is just a matter of getting the balance and flow correct.
