My aquarium has developed a white bloom in the water. The water itself is clear (ie no debris) however there seems to be a white cloudy appearance to the water.

It started after a 1/3 water change last week and has not cleared even after a further 1/3 water change 7 days later.

The filter seems to be working OK.

The fish do not seems to be affected.

I have an Aqua One aquarium Model AR-62T (holds approx. 140 litres) with biological filter. I have had the aquarium for almost 2 years.

Can anyone help?

Regards, Irene

sounds like a bacteria bloom, over fed recently, added lots more new fish or gave your filters a super clean?

Irene, it sounds like you may have a bacterial bloom in the water. Are your nitrite or nitrate readings high?

Have a look for a dead fish or dead snail hidden somewhere in the tank, or maybe some rotting food.

Frequent water changes will help, but a UV will fix the problem.

Merrilyn,

Excuse my ignorance but what is a UV? Can I get that from my local pet shop?
