Hi Everyone,
It has come to my attention recently that some of my mates canisters are a lot slower than they are rated for - particularly when an inline heater is attached to them.
Does any body know how much an inline heater reduces flow through a canister filter by?

Hi Grant,
i would think that the addition of an inline heater would create nil affect on a cannister filter.
A bit different it were a turbo twister UV....

Heya G,
I have a Hydor 300w inline heater running on my Eheim ProII 2028 and it has zero effect on my water flow, as Ben said you would expect some water flow reduction with a inline UV. I can't see any reason why a inline heater would reduce water flow, the water is pumped straight through the unit using the same diameter as the filter tubing. HTH
Cheers,
Dee :)

Remember that most canisters are flow rated WITHOUT any media in them. Adding media will certainly slow the output, and when the media is clogged up with sludge, the flow will be greatly affected.
