quartz pool filter sand

Hi all!

I bought 2 bags of the pool filter sand from Swimart, Southern Pacific Sands brand 1640.

I thought it was going to be white but when I opened it, it was more grey/brown.

Is there different types? Did I pick up the wrong one?

mined from different areas = different colours

try a different brand

your quartz was probably not a pure as some other brands :wink:

Also keep in ming that it will look different in the water and under lights.

I have a brand called Blue Cirlce Southern, Specialised Sand. In the bag it looks as though it has a bit of a grey tinge to it.

Once in the tank it is brilliant white.

Maybe put a handful in a jar and lower the jar into you tank to have a look under lights?

I'm pretty sure the brand that you have is the same as what proteus uses?...you can see some photos of his tanks on this forum. The substrate always appears to be a nice crisp white colour.
