There is nothing new with this type of spawning frame but it is very easy to make and very cheap!
I bought the terracotta tiles from tilemart in Mitcham Melbourne for $7.80 for 20 tiles. 6 of these frames work out at $1.30 each not including the silicon.
I have used selley's glass silicon as it is aquarium safe and will be strong enough to hold the tiles together. I already had this tube of silicon but costs around $7- which would be enough to make 100+ of these spawning frames!
Assembly was very easy (see pics below) i smoothed out the silicon with my finger tip. It took less than 10 minutes to make all 6!
Anyhow just a cheap very functional idea for those that want to breed their loved ones!
Cheers

Axl,
Only one frame per tank is fine...A big tank with a few adult discus, 2 of the frames would be a great idea!
I made the frames to save on some space.
As you can see by the pic below, those cheap terracotta pots are good but take up a lot of space in a 2x18x18 tank.

Great job Ben.
Might have to take a drive down the road to Tile Mart and get myself a box of those tiles.
At $7.80 a box that's cheap.

spawning frames work a treat!
Pictures of a young pair of blue diamonds. Eggs 1 hour after they have layed eggs on the frame.

Ben,
Wanna add something. When you try to smooth the silicon, wet your fingers with some dishwashing liquid. That'll minimise the silicon from sticking on your fingers and making it messy.
I used to make my own spawning tile just like yours. It's kinda cheap and works well too.............

hi there i also had idears if want to save room in tanks too
as buy one of those clay pots in bundings, rather block the hole in the middle of the pot , silicone a long enough clear tube , run a air line in that tube and put a air stone on it ,and then put a filter wool or sponge in the pot, so that way the pot is a sporning cone and a filter at same time. rather than have a filter sticking on the glass. what u think about that idear ?
