Merrilyn
Sat Dec 03, 2005, 12:48 PM
Though you might like to see a couple of quick photos of my new tank. It's a ten foot Jebo  You can see the 8 x 2.5 x 2.5 in the background.

As you can see, it's just arrived, (took 6 big men to deliver it) and I'll post pics as it's being set up.

I thought the 8 footer was nasty, but this baby takes the cake. Puts any other tank to shame, and that includes the 8 footer as well.

I wonder how long it's gonna take to get this bad boy fully cycled? 2 months? 3 months? I can only imagine....

Keep us up to date Merrilyn. Cant wait :D

Sun Dec 04, 2005, 11:14 AM
Thanks for all the comments folks. Yes, I know it's insane, but I saw it, and I just had to have it. There were only 2 of them in Australia, one in Melbourne and another one in Sydney. They retail for a bit over $10,000, but this one came direct from the importer. Filtration will be two Fluval FX5 filters, two Aqua One filters and one one Eheim Pro 3. UV will be provided by two Debary UV units.

The tank is 10 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot 6 inches deep all 15mm glass, and holds around 1720 litres.

I intend turning it into a true Amazon biotope. An exact replica of a small chunk of the Amazon river (well a rather large chunk actually). No plants, just branches and driftwood, home to a few hundred cardinal tetras, some altums, discus, eartheaters for the bottom and maybe a pleco or two.

I'll let you know as things progress.

Hi Ladyred,

Wat a beautiful tank ! I like the finishing touch...very nice work.
1 How you gonna filter that tank ? by the eheim standing infront of it or does it have biological filter (such a tank under the aquarium filled with filtersubstrat)
2 what brand is it ? do they have a website ?

Good luck with it..

yes... It´s a monster.

But my neighbour has one that it´s even bigger

http://mongabay.com/fish/images/bigtank.jpg

Now seriously... You thought well when you said you won´t keep too many plants. Whit a tank of that size it would be a hard task.

And you´ll need plenty of driftwood to make it like an amazon tank.

Once Amano came to Portugal to join us in our annual foruns birthday and he showed us how he made that tank (even the house where he lives).

You won´t believe how hard it took to bring the bigger driftwood that you see in the pic above. And it came from Amazon ( Brasil ) by plane

About ten guys just to pick the wood from the truck to the living room.

Well now back to yours... we all want to see what you´re going to do whit your brand new swimming pool 8-)

Uptade it soon pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee

nicholas76
Sun Dec 04, 2005, 08:20 PM
ive seen that picture before Fernando, its a very impressive setup to say the least.

Do you have the link which shows the progress of that tank to its final stage?

also are there pictures of that tank with fish in it?

Fernando Leite
Sun Dec 04, 2005, 09:25 PM
also are there pictures of that tank with fish in it?

Yes in fact there is. Amano gave us for free a sample magazine which contain details photos of the progress. ( I ´ll try to put them here later for you to check )

I can also tell that he put a lot of ( maybe thousands) of nenon fish and he added several Altuns ( I dont´know how do you call them but here in Portugal we call them Escalares   )

But ahhhhh it has given me lots of ideas.

Mon Dec 05, 2005, 09:51 PM
Wow LR that is truly amazing. I'd love to see progress pics also.

I've mentioned my on-the-way 6x2x2 previously, well it looks like it may become a 8x2x2.5 we've decided to paint the room it's going in before we put the tank there (Christmas break).

Anyway, i was also looking to mimicing the amazon bio as well so we'll have to keep in touch as i'd love some tips and it's always good to bounce some ideas around.

Anyway, regarding the 10foot size i was talking to a LFS (so i take with a grain of salt) that once you hit odd feet in length the tank needs to have some cross-bracing to minimise the bowing of the sides (i guess this is dependent on height too). Doesn't appear to be on your tank, do they perhaps bouild this into the hood, or is it a false proclamation my the LFS "wizard"?

Hi Fernando Leite, where do u get the picture from ?

What website ? I would like to know the details of the filtration of that tank.

Or does anyone else know ??

Thanks

Oops just re-read my previous post...

In the last paragraph it should say 10 odd feet in length. Not "odd feet in length" because, well that makes absolutely no sense.

HAHAHA you guys are all so gorgeous, you make me laugh.

Now, the tank man comes on Friday, so I should have some piccies for ya Friday night.

There will be 5 filters on the tank (talk about overkill  ) Two Aqua One 2400 filters, two Fluval FX5 bucket filters and one Eheim Pro 3. Now that should keep the water clean LOL

As only two of the filters are cycled, I'll be adding fish slowly so as not to overload the bio filter. Maybe start off with some geophagus altifrons and a couple of snow king plecos. Discus and altums will be added later. Driftwood will be added as I find some interesting pieces.

This tank is the centrepiece in the room, so I want to do it slowly so I get it right the first time

That is a very nice tank, How much did the tank alone cost, I saw one the same size yesterday but it didnt come with all the filters and acessories, but it did have a very nice wooden cabinet and wood top. It was listed at $2200 american with a price reduction of about $400, and then 10% off the acessories to go with it, that is if you purchased them at the same time of course.

I wish I had $1800 to drop into an aquarium because I would have surely purchased that one.

If so have you just cut holes in the trickle filter bed to allow access for the canister tubing?
