Visit to the Arizona memorial.

Whilst a highlight of the trip so far, it really does make you sit back and think about what really did occur, and the losses that a war brings to us (and this includes not just the Americans, but the many Japanese, and other nationalities who fell in World War II)

After spending a few hours at the Arizona memorial, we drove up to the North coast, via the Dole plantation (Pineapples everywhere).

I am still away  (in California at the moment)

I usually try and get away for at least 2 weeks every 5-6 months.

Thanks for the comment re the pics.... the original sized images look a lot better but it is a bit of a load on the site and peoples connections if I load the full size 1-3MB images (they will be used for printing etc)

Its good to see the pink palace is looking as lovely as ever.

The metal detector guys... what a hoot...

here you have thousands of people in as little clothing as possible, then these guys in full wetsuits, with weights strapped to there waists, goggles on, and hi-tek metal detector machines and headphones.... very weird, but hey, they kept finding things

and when you get to the end of the road (for driving) they have some nice warning signs to make you feel right at home....

Proteus
Mon Dec 05, 2005, 08:34 AM
mind you, just a week after visiting here, over 40 acres of land fell away into the ocean, plenty of warning was given (level 4.5 seismic shocks went through the area before hand) so no injuries were sustained, but the area was closed off to the public...

(maybe it was those beans I ate)

whats the go with that I wonder??

Proteus

The sign originally was located further up the road, until the lava kind of engulfed the road, were bits of splatter (spit) went flying for 100's of yards, burning things like signs etc.

All the lava that covered the road started in 1984, and is still flowing and covering up stuff as we speak.

A "fire hose" of lava shot out of a newly formed, 100-foot-high cliff Tuesday. Today, the lava is continuing to flow down a "ramp" at the base of the cliff, seen here beginning to form.

Awesome photos !!

Kept my eyes glued to the screen for sometime.

The power of nature what a force !!

The no parking sign photo made me lol.
It really gives a sense of perspective to the subject.

Don't think anyone short of aliens will need to take much notice of it now.

How long before you touch down in the promised land ?

Cheers,

Mark
