Make sure you leave at least 20cm between the tank and the next shelf for easy access and also use a level as you go. Some people dont cut the croosbeams into the legs supports but i think it makes a sturdier structure.
Here is some photo's of the stand finished with tanks on it.
They arnt very clear because i took them on my phone.

No much help because you cant see much and i painted it black so you can really see the joins.
Iam about to make a stand that holds 8 2fters and a large sump that runs all the tank when i make that ill share some pics.
Cheers

welcome discman you'll appreciate this site i'm sure.
with the stands go steel if you can weld and have access to equip.
i used 30 x 30 x 2mm RHS mild steel. it's light in weight and strong,
can be modified without too much fuss, and doesn't grow leaves and get cut down with an environment polluting machine. worth giving a go, i made 2 x 2 tier stands for 6x2x2 tanks for 50 bucks and a days work. i'm sold.
a hint is check the local timber merchant for standard sheet sizes of base wood and work around that otherwise your cost can go up sharply.
spend plenty of time planning
8) hope it's some help
