Our local Chinese takeaway greets customers with: 'Wah yu wan?'.
I presume this translates as 'How may I help you?'.

Only just SLIGHTLY POLITICALLY INCORRECT !?!
Heh, arent we meant to be a tolerant, multicultural country?
Whoops,
My Bad...!!

We are a tolerant society,, thats why we can laugh at ourselves and/or each other despite the colour of our skin or our religous beliefs.
glad I live in the lucky country!

I agree with Nick on this...
We must show some tolerance on things, especially humour, when no harm is intended.
I think we have shown in the past we are serious when it comes to things like religion, and race, and I will state for the record, if any of our Asian friends are offended by this, then *poof* things disappear.

I dont know bout u, but my understanding of tolerance, is not mocking, and humourizing people for their differences...
Maybe im being over sensitive, i duno...
Thought i'd raise the issue, iz all

Benny, it's good that you care, and it's important that you care about people's feelings.
With a background of thousands of years of culture and civilisation in China, the Chinese are intelligent, sophisticated and confident enough to have a sense of humour. I'm sure any Chinese forum members reading this thread would know that we are laughing with them as mates, not laughing at them.
My Cantonese grandfather used to love this kind of stuff. It shows that we not only tolerate each other - we actually like each other!

Thanks for those words Fred. Those are my thoughts exactly, but if any of our Asian friends find the thread offensive, please feel free to PM Proteus or myself.

For the record, i dont disagree with the whole friendly banter business, and that sometimes it is good fun to have a laugh at ourselves, for our quirky differences.
I was raising the issue, with only a cautious mindset, that maybe it could be taken offensively by some forum members.
God bless Multiculturalism at its finest (besides the weirdos trying to change our way of life)
