Are you gonna setup that tank in your house ???

The tank is already set up, somewhere in Western Sydney (where it is publically viewable). Currently there are 200 Tetras, quite a few Congo Tetras as well, plus a few other bits and pieces.
Discus will be added over the coming weeks (slowly).
I have also been advised it is closer to 4,000 Litres (someone screwed up the calculations... lol)

The tank is located at Merrylands RSL Club
(14 Military Road, Merrylands, NSW, Australia)
Once fully set up, the tank should contain at least 30-50 Discus.

If its really 4000 litres :?: then it has to be eirther 12x3x4 or 12x4x3 ....
Proteus
Sat Nov 05, 2005, 09:08 PM
I believe it is similar to those dimensions.
If you look at the Halide canopy or the space below you wll see 8 x doors, each door is approx 1.25 to 1.50ft across.
There are also 4 x Halides lighting the tank up.

Having been out to Merrylands last week to see this tank in person, I have only one word to say...
*WOW*
It is huge, much bigger than expected, especially when the base of the tank is 4-5 ft off the ground, and it goes up another 4-5ft from there.
Some of the crypts and other plants have gone nuts under the MH lighting, and the fish... they are everywhere.
I will try and get some construction pics loaded over the weekend, as they are very interesting as well, being that all of it was built on site

Tue Feb 14, 2006, 09:54 PM
If I recall close to $20,000
Bear in mind, aside from the sheer size of the tank, and the thickness of the glass (19-25mm), it sits on one serious frame and the base of the tank is 4-5ft off the ground.
Then you have the large recirculating sump system underneath with pumps, UV, the row of Metal Halides above the tank etc etc...
I am sure I could organise a discount if anyone wanted one  lol

What an absolutely awesome sight!
Next time I am in Sydney, Merrylands RSL Club here I come for a real drool. No playing the Pokies for me, I will just sit and slobber over the tank and its' inhabitants!!
Big pat on the back to the person or persons who constructed this tank - and same goes for the person who will be maintaining it.
The layout and planting looks gorgeous and the Discus - well what can I say?.
I definately intend to go there next time I go to Sydney - it will be the hilight of my trip.
Congratulations, Xtreme Aquariums!!
Regards,
Marg.

Good luck catchin breeding pairs, without a scuba divers setup
What about dead fish, heh floaters are good, but what about sinkers?
You would need one of those really long swimming pool nets!
Heh love the tank!
but wouldnt wanna clean it hahahahahaha

hehehe
Benny if you can afford to have that tank you can afford to have someone clean it for you.
Proteus
Wed Mar 01, 2006, 03:39 AM
Why catch breeding pairs? with over 50 Discus in there it would be next to impossible.
Long handled coral clamps come in handy for removing stuff on the base.
The way the filters and air outlets are placed minimises dead spots, so any waste doesnt get a chance to settle.
Cleaning is a breeze, with massive magnet glass cleaners, plus the coral clamp I already mentoined.
I think if you had a tank this size you would work out a way to keep it clean, or as Nick suggested, get someone to clean it for you

Rebecca......can you advise the club that it is OK with you if members take some foto's please??
I would be happy if they wanted name and address.
I ask because other clubs have objected in the past for security reasons.
Thanks.....Jim

Any recent pics?
