Filter Sand - Where to buy SPECIFICALLY!

Hey guys i have some of the filter sand branded unicorn or somethin (see pic) however mine appears yellowy coloured not white as was expected...

Curious where in sydney can u source good quality filtersand, preferably in the north shore, or city area (dont mind eastern suburbs or inner west, but nothing too far away)

ugh i was lookin thru the yellow pages and seem to have found my answer... Though the mosman swimart place had the same "unicorn" branded stuff i already have anyhoo...

I also noticed ro, urs is a different grade to mine... Mine is 16/30 urs is 16/40

I recently (yesterday) purchased some Blue Circle "Specialised Sand". It's veru white in colour even without being wet and under lights.

I tell you what i'm wondering why an "inert" material needs the warnings about flushing skin if comming into contact etc.

Dust... being silica (quartz) based it is sharp and can do damage (i.e. in eyes etc)

This means that the upper limit for the particle size for Proteus' product is larger than yours. The lower limit for particle size is the same.

From the research I have done 16/40 to 16/50 is perhaps the best grade filter sand to get, due to the fact it doesnt compact like the finer grain sand does.

You want it to compact to an extent, but not to the point where aneorobic bacteria can build up and is trapped below the substrate surface.

Benny, do yourself a favour & come on a drive down to "Gods Country" The Sutherland Shire for those of you that dont know the local term. The store Proteus is talking about is on President ave in Gymea. Damn easy to find, sticks out like a sore thumb on the left hand side of the road when your driving from Miranda to Gymea.

I just bought myself 2 bags of this sand from Swimart Nth Strathfield.

I opened it to find it is not white? It is more grey/brown? Is this right? I was expecting it to be white. :-(
