Hi merman,

I have used the discus red and super ADP and did not seem to notice much difference. I reckon that the tetra colourbits are a better option as it is much cheaper and the fishes seem to eat it more readily. If colour enhancement is what you are after carophyll red/astaxanthin added to beefheart works much better.

I used White Crane food a few years ago for African Malawi Cichlids. The brand is a little contraversial as their is a lot of rumour around as to what (hormones etc) they use to achieve the results. I used the 'R' and 'G' foods wich are designed to target red and green pigments respectively. You can also get a yellow/black pigment enhancer.

I used the product on the recommendation by a cichlids specialist in the Brisbane area as they feed their fish in the shop on this food. However i stopped using it a short while later because of the varying (strong) opinions out there.

Honestly, the stuff worked a charm. As an example you could have fully coloured african cichlids at a length of 1.5 inches. Even the slow colouring lithobates and aulonocara (peacock) varieties.

Subsequent to my decision with the cichlids, i have not used ths food with discus so i couldn't comment on the duscus food varieties.

Now the choice of fish food involves ethics and morals!

I didn't think feeding fish could be so controversial :)

I heard whitecrane foods can actually change the sex of the fish due to its high hormone level. It can also make your fish infertile and in the worst circumstance kill it. In terms of bringing out the color of your fish though it is excellent. Personally i wouldnt use it.

hi guys, i have been using white crane for a couple of years now. i feed my saratoga the R type when it was still about 5cm until it was 15cm, i certainly saw a huge difference in colour once i stoppped feeding it because it was getting too expensive.
I am currently feeding my red turqoise, white diamond and malboro a mixture of different type of white crane(discus Medi,Monthly and Vital). i mix all 3 of them together and feed daily even though it recommends you feed the Monthly once or twice a month. i feed them from a feeding cone together with tetra bits and blood worms and brine shrimpes. i have not had any problem with breeding as the discus lay eggs regularly. i have seen little wrigglers aswell in my 5x2x2.5

* as for the white crane medi(which i think is suppose to get rid of worms) , i dont believe it works but i have a notice that my healthy fish are doing very well because it prevents rather than cures.

*as for colour, i have noticed it does make the orange, red and blue more brighter and stronger.

i guess if you mix with other food aswell it should be ok. anything in moderation is always good.

sorry for late reply, too busy with work
ben, i got my white crane from a LFS, its expiry date had expired so they discounted it to $30 for the 300g Super R, i bought the Discus Booster for $28 for the 150g and the Discus Medi for $30 for the 150g.
from memory the bigger container(400g??) of Discus Booster is about $50.

look up white crane on ebay.com.au, theres a guy selling it.
if white crane is not that expensive, i would use it more.

Ben, i have noticed a huge difference in my turquoise colours, the intensity on the discus that is actively eating on the white crane is so much stronger.
as for growth, its growing as normal! its hard to say because i feed them tetrabits and hikari bloodworms and brine shrimp aswell.

im basically using white crane because of the colour difference it makes.

As for any negative, the granules are too hard for the discus to eat. the food sits in the feeding cone for a few minutes before it gets eaten.

I use crane on my chiclids

the difference is noticeable

but i only do this because i don't want to breed them, if you are trying to breed fish i suggest not to use it.

i have never used it on my discus for this reason
