Those pots from the garden stores, how adversley do they affect water chemistry and is it worth being concerned? How can I minimise any leeching?

As long as the pot is new, they don't affect the water at all. Just give them a good scrub with salt and warm water, to remove any impurities, and you can drop them into the tank.
