Hi all , I got problem with my fry, they keep on dying !!!!
I got them in a 4ft tank by themselves. Initially there were about 100 of them. But everyday about 2-4 died.
They're about 1 month old now , about 5cents coin size.
My water parameter : pH 6.8 - 7 , Ammonia 0 , Nitrate 0 ,Temp 30
I already put Ammonia remover and nitrazorb in the filter to help reduce the ammonia and nitrate level.
Filtration is 2 sponge filter and 1 hang on filter.
I place one large driftwood in the middle of tank as "their home"
Water change is everyday about 30%.
In the morning and afternoon I feed them baby brine shrimp. At noon is tetra bits. At night is beef heart.
Can anyone see whats wrong ? Any suggestion or thought ?
Thanks in advance

you sound like your doing the right thing
maybe a larger water change, 2 x 30% daily and see if that helps
what about some crushed shell grit in the bottom to stablize the pH
i really don't know, you sound like your doing the right thing :?

Thanks LR ... I hope no more fry die tomorrow morning...
Should I continue with "fluke & tapeworms" treatment after this metro treatment finished ?
What do you guys think ?
Here's a pic of the tank. It was taken couple of days ago.
I already placed a large driftwood in the middle and one hang on filter.
Thanks

are they all eating? its probably you have them in big tank where the weak ones couldnt 'find' food.
they are still small i think its better to keep them in smaller tank for now

They're going alright now.
I wasnt sure what causes them to die. All I did was adding nitrazorb and ammonia remover into the filter.
Also metro treatment for once only.
Do you have problem with your babies as well ??

Hi Drv yer Im having trouble with a few of my turq babies looking sick, the dont eat look a bit darker and face the back of the tank and breathe hard. The also rub there gills on the sponges.
Not sure wots wrong.
I have zero reading of nitrite and trates and amonia.
I only water change twice a week. Im going to increase these, as they are getting bigger, but water parameters not moving yet.
Wot do you think :?:

Dr V and Chris,
I have great success when i use a UV sterilizer with the babies. I believe this keeps the nasties under control, more so gill flukes.

It sounds like gill flukes chris , as they rubbing on the sponges. But im not sure what dosage to use on babies. I guess a half of normal dosage ??
Good luck

Many people including myself with say that you will have a much higher survival rate when you keep your fry in UV treated water.
Gill flukes are a big deal to small growing fish adn the UV controls flukes very well.
Hope you have better luck in teh future

Hello Dr. V,
My opinion is that this has nothing to do with your water quality. The same is happening in other parts of the world.
I post to a thread by Chris on the same issue....
To prevent such happening......
1) Feed your fry...even before separating from their parent....as much and frequent food as possible and make numerous WC daily.
2) Before you separate parent and fry, make sure that not a single fry is dark or sickly. Never transfer sick fry. One sick fry means all are susceptible.
3) If there are sick fry or the brooder is unwell, make treatment to both parent and babies......to 100% recovery before moving them.
There is an internal bacteria infection (endobacteria) and treatment should be metronidazole in feed and in water and erythromycin in water. Never use tetracycline....very painful and stressful. At this stage, it is a little too late.....don't guarantee success, mate.
Take care,
Andrew :angel
