Hi,
I'm trying to get a tank (150L) prepared for discus. It's been running for about 5weeks now with an in-tank filter and 11 small fish including Tiger Barbs, Tetras and a Bristle Nose Catfish affectionately nicknamed 'Fatguts' by my four year old.
I initially had some issues with ammonia levels that made the water cloudy. The local pet shop recommended Zeolite Crystals that come packaged in a plastic bottle. Half a cup was put into a stocking and placed in the tank.
Problem seems the rubbing of the crystals in the packaging created a type of powder which resulted in a nice white cloud when placed in the tank for the first time. Since then I've had little speckles I just can’t seem to get rid of through the filter. I put another smaller filter in the tank (stuck to front of tank, see picture) with standard sponge filter replaced with wool filter. This seems to be helping.
Any other ideas?
