What does everybody use to raise the KH in their tanks??

I have virtually zero KH and I want to raise it to 4-5 degrees.

Is baking soda safe to use. I have read posts where it states that 1 teaspoon of baking soda added to 50 litres will raise the KH by 4 degrees. Does this sound right?

Baking soda is alot cheaper than commercial KH Raisers.

Thanks,
Dave.

Shellgrit, the stuff you feed to your budgies and such!!! Throw some into your gravel!!! Naturally boosts the kh of a tank

How much shellgrit would I need and how do you regulate it? I have a 4x2x2 tank.

Dave.

Hi Dave, nothing very scientific about it. I just use a handful of shellgrit, sometimes two, in a four foot tank, and replace it after about a month.

Thanks Ladyred,

How much does it raise the KH, ie how many degress etc.

Dave.
