what filter medium do you use for a planted tank?

Hey, i've got a question about filter medium in a external canister for a planted tank.

I just want to know what your opinions are, to what filter medium you have inside your cannisters?

and what not to have such as carbon?

I have taken to using nothing but sponges, floss, and ceramics in my cans.

As far as what not to have........

So much depends on the situation.

I refuse to use chemical ANYTHING.

Unless it is absolutely warranted.

I use ceramic noodles and some foam pads as a prefilter.
Rinse out the foam once a month in a bucket of water from the tank.
No probs at all.
