29 marine w/o glass

So, I was doing a WC on my 29 gal. marine yesterday when my girlfriend accidentally knocked over the hood I had placed on the floor. She broke the glass casing that the flourescent light sits on.

So now there glass that was between the light and the tank itself is no longer there. As it turns out, I am picking up a new hood with PC lighting in a few days but for now I was wondering whether I can even turn the flouresecent lighting on with nothing between it and the water?

I know it's not directly discus-related, but: Any thoughts? Thanks.

But you have to look from safety point of view.

If the fish splash some water, can it cause short circuit ?

maybe put a piece of acrylic for the time being. yea as DR.V said water+electricity=bad.
