water parameters breeding tank

hi guys did some water test today ammo oppm nitrite 0ppm nitrate 7ppm gh 130ppm this was on breeding tank is this ok or do i need to get the gh and nitrate down somehow cheers :D :D :D matt.

Hi Matt. Your nitrate reading is not too bad, although perhaps a little high for a pristine breeding tank. Waterchanges will bring it down to under 5, which is ideal.

That GH reading is way too high. For discus we need it under 50 ppm. You can try a water softener pillow, which is supposed to remove calcium and magnesium ions with ion exchange resin, but if your GH is that high out of the tap, then the only long term solution is an RO unit, or diluting your tap water with purchased RO water.
