hello,
i have been researching and reading for the past 3 weeks on discus keeping. so far, i am amazed by what a beautiful species the discus are. i plan on having a 65 gallon tank (36" long x 18" wide x 24" tall). for filtration i plan on using a wet/dry with bioballs and a hang on tank overflow and a biosponge filter inside the tank itself. i plan on using a uv sterilizer as well as a single 96 watt power compact fixture for lighting. for heating, i will use 2- finnex titanium heaters. for substrate, i will use pool filter sand. i have a question on plants: do i have to use co2 if i only put a few plants in the tank? i would like to use driftwood with some java moss, java fern and some anubias nana and barteri. hopefully i'm on the right track so far. i don't plan on setting up the tank until i have researched more and i feel confident enough to try discus.
thank you for your time.
