all you have to do is:
length x width x water level hight and divide that by 1000.

Hi Gooldenpigeon
Is that in centimetres or feet?
If its centimetres, does anyone know what a 4x2x2 is in cms?
Cheers

roughly
1inch = 2.5cm
1foot = 12 inches
or if you prefer to measure it in inch/gallon
is l x w x d / 231= volume in gallon

4x2x2 approximatly is 120x60x60 = 432000ml or 432 litres (that is completly full to the top)
i think, i did do the maths on my phone, so double check

yeah its 432 , but i always assume its 450L for measuring fertilizer , or any water conditioner.
Because some water goes into the filter right ??

4x2x2 feet= 122x61x61cm= 453 liter's then if you allow for the glass then it will be less.

also consider extra volume in mini reef...or canister(s)..should make up the loss from glass... :-)

yes and no
as duck posted, 1 to 2cm difference makes 32 litres of difference
if you have 5cm of substrate and 3 cms at the top you could in fact have a difference of 100ltrs ish :shock:
best to measure yourself, inside measurements, then mark your high water mark on the side of the tank with a permenant marker, write next to that how many litres this equates to and you will never have to worry again :wink: (if you are concerned with your canister, fill it with ater and measure that too, and add this amount next to your tank volume :wink: )

dont forget the water in the tubes aswell, and any drift wood or plants etc will displace the water. Its amazing how much the water will rise with 3 bits of drift wood.
