Kno3 makes ph rise 7.3 to 10.3

Hi,
i put some kno3 in my 6ft tank i used 1 teaspoon and it has risen my ph from 7.3 to 10.3 lucky my tank is in planning and i have no discus in there yet, just wanting to no if this meant to happen and can someone explain it to me why it happened.

What is kno3 suppose to do?

its a form of potassium and nitrogen put into 1, so i use it to get my nitrate levels up and potassium levels up

You definately have a bad batch of KNO3, b/c I use some in my planted tank with no probs with Ph, r u sure that it wasn't some other chemical in there. Why are you putting KNO3 in a tank during planning stage?

im putting it in there becuase i have put plants in there and i had some bga show up and that is generally signs of low nitrate levels
