Prefilter query

Am about to replace the prefilter mats in my Aqua One Tank. I have seen polyfilter, and others that apparently remove ammonia. Does anyone have any opinion on a good prefilter for my tank and prices etc.

Depends how much money you want to spend.

Personally I just use the normal filterfloss. Nice and cheap, and you can throw it away. I think we do so many waterchanges, that we are unlikely to need the fancy filter media. :wink:

Polyfilters do have there uses but I'd recommend placing them in the filter after the biological media as you should really leave the bacteria to deal with ammonia and nitrite.
That way your polyfilter will last longer and be more efficient at removing nitrate, phosphate and heavy metals.
They also change in colour depending on what it has been pulling out of your water.

Not a replacement for filter floss but a welcome addition.
