Hi All,

I can be a very simple man at times  but can anyone tell me the theory behind putting the UV on the output hose when using a UV with a canister filter ? I remember reading why somewhere, but can not for the life of me find it. :?

Cheers,

Dee :)

You actually need the cleanest water possible going thru the UV.

The micro organisms in the water can only be killed if they are directly in contact with the light. If you put it on the intake, the bugs can hide behind even the smallest piece of debris, and you will only get a partial kill rate.

The other thing is that it keeps your globe clean for longer.

HTH.

plus, by having it after the filtration, less gunk can build up on the internal quartz sleeve surrounding the tube.

Looks like you got a nice little job planned for the weekend Matt. Sorry.

Yes, it really is more efficient on the outlet, and will definately be worth going to all the trouble. While you've got the thing pulled apart, take the opportunity to give the globe and sleeve a good clean.
