photo competition

there are a lot of stunning photos posted by df members....so why don't we have a monthly photo competition?

it wouldn't have to be just fish but could be tanks, aquascapes and anythign else to do with discus keeping.

it's hard to get sponsors to donate prizes but perhaps if it cost a couple of dollars for each ebtry we could cover the prizes ourselves.

or we could combine the photo comp with monthly raffles to cover the cost of prizes.

if everyone had a look through their pc at old photos i'm sure we could get at least one entry from each member.

what do you guys think?

OK, consider it a done deal...

Give me a couple of days to see what I can organise with some contacts, sponsors, etc, then consider it a happenning thing.

Would you prefer Monthly, or to maybe generate more interest, Quarterly (easier to secure some decent prizes that way)

Tis your call, if maybe someone wants to start a poll in the lounge, I will go with whatever the majority want.

Do we need to look at different catagories?

ie,

*juvies
*breeding pairs
*planted tanks
*discus companions

Or should we keep it just anything discus realted for the first couple of months for a trial.

it was just an idea....we can all plan it together.

perhaps start it off with no catagories...just best pic

that keeps it simply to start. then if it is popular enough (and we are not going to bleed our sponsors dry) then create catagories

what do you guys think??

I guess a judging criteria would have to be established and judges will have to be chosen. perhaps our sponsors could be our judges??

Grat idea, but we may need too make sure it is there photo. These can get tricky as people can take photo's of LFS tanks or get pics off the web..

Just something else too think about...

Can be solved by having too enter 2 photo's the entry photo and the other too varify its your tank, ie a shot of you next too the tank etc...

Good idea hope you don't mind me jumping in.
Couple idea's
Should have 2 catagories
1) for discus only shots
2)for full on tank shot planted or not,but must have discus in it,as this is a discus forum.
2 photo's each, one the entry the other of the room it's in ie from a distance so you can see some house hold stuff.
You can only enter in one catagory not both.

Great, count me in.
Just one thing though you'll have to put a limit on how many photos can be entered.
I can just imagine people not being able to make up there mind on which is the best shot so they'll enter 10 photos :lol:
Maybe make a max of 2-3 photos per catagory.
