Discus ability to shoot water

I noticed how discus eject water from the mouth to stir up food off the ground.

I noticed my female is more skilled at it than the male.

Following this I have started pressing bits of food against the glass above the water level a cm or so. She tries her best to get it, as the frustration starts she starts to eject water to try and knock it down.
1 out of 5 she is successful. I have tried to document her doing it.to no avail. Kids and animals ey.

Has anyone else experienced this?

yep they do this, they arn't archer fish but they get better at it with age.

angelfish also do this.

Geos will splash water at food above the glass to wash it into the water so they can eat it.
