Should an ro filter be used on water when trying to breed discus. ???

you dont need it.
in cairns you should have plenty of soft rain water in your domestic supply.
do a 50% water change with water that at a ph of 5.5-6.0 and 2 degrees cooler then the tank the next time a storm that comes through.
That should trigger the spawn easy.

if need be remove the female as 9/10 times she's the one who will eat the eggs. or cage them with gutter guard
