Hi all
I have choices of
a) 0.03" to 0,04" thickness of quartz sand
b) 0,04" to 0,12"
c) 0,12" to 0,20" mm

how much quartz sand should I use?

Info about my aquarium are as follows:
length, width, height : 48" , 20", 24"
capacity 80 gallons net
the plants: cryptocorine cruspatula var.balance
gigante anabias
gigante americana vellisneria

discus: marlboro red, blue turqoise

My advice is to keep your plants in cut down pots or take away food containers and use a very thin layer of very fine sand. You can hide pots behind rocks and anubius plants. It looks good, is easy to clean and you can remove the sand easily if you have disease issues.
The larger the grain size the more likely it will trap waste.
Corydorus catfish are great for keeping the bottom clean.
Hope that helps.

Example of one of my tanks
I use mostly anubius and java fern so I don't need pots
