i dont think to much would happen. black hair algae is so strong even allot of plecs and otto's wont bother with it. if you wanna get rid of it talk to the folks of G&S they have a working treatment!

I think I posted the results just a second before you posted David, have a look now. :D

Inspired by Myth busters ! Granted they need to be young and also an army of them, but they will eat black algae.

Fantastic. What a gorgeous little clean up crew. And not a damaged leaf in sight. Perhaps you should hire them out

Different photo takers ... my wife took the clearer pics except the CLEARED pic (she had gone to bed by that time). Lighting had alot to do with changing the settings on the digital camera between us.

THE NEXT CHALLENGE ... going to pop my forest into the baby bristlenose tank next weekend. Hopefully will have similar results ... although it may be short term.

Your lucky I have 1 plant in my tank covered in the stuff and my bn dont go near it. Mine seem to go mad when I feed discus dinner believe it or not they swim over and sit on top of it and when they get a mouth full they raise there heads like crocodiles do to chew it its the wierdess thing.

LOL, I have 8 giant BN that live in the grow out Discus tank (now a loach den) and they got exponential huge from eating large servings of Discus Dinner. I moved two plants covered in black algae from my 4x2x2 tank, one went into the baby BN tank and the other into the grow out tank ... both have been sorted by BN in both tanks.

I am trying to create a different effect in my 4x2x2, by just having 2 large forests on either side and a nice space in the middle (which had the previous two plants). The forests are covered in black algae (which I wonder is partially from the morning light which hits this tank a little bit) .

So I am hoping to clean them up by dropping them into the BNs for a day, then get some nice photos of my discus tank finally. Have 12 beautiful discus in there, but the black algae ... ! arhhh !

Baby BN's are the best for this as they do little or no damage to plants...

Get the big ones in there, bye bye plants...

also, BN's seem to get lazy as the get bigger, I guess they get to know we will feed them if they dont eat the algae
