hi paul,
i dont want to burst your bubble or anything but i highly doubt you will get near that. is this price for the lot? if it is you most likly wont get that sort of money for the lot. a commonish kind of pair is usually worth aroud $200 -$400 depending on quallity ect. single adults depending on the strain are worth $100 -$200.

sorry if there is any confusion

I think there is a high asking price because you are buying a comfirmed breeding pair. Not just you any two discus put together and called a "pair".

Do you have pictures to post? would love to see them.

maybe but i would expect to pay this figure for something a bit rarer. ofcourse for a proven pair you are going to have to pay a bit extra.

im not saying his fish are common or not worth the money but on a whole i would not regard a rose red as a "hard to get" strain. sure you dont see them everyday but most roses are going for around $70 -$120 for a 10-12cm fish

Can you confirm what dollars you are looking for per pair

$1000.00 per pair is a bit much for me

Look, I do not doubt his price. But for that sort of money we would need a bit more information.

For all you know his pair may be 20cm GIANT rose red fish. SUPERB ROUND SHOW fish, intense reddish brown coloured body, solid red eyes, 2inch thick body, great deportment, under 2years old, consistently have 150+ fry on their backs without any problems raising them and spawn consistently.

There ARE fish worth more than that sort of money mind you.....

This pair (offered to me) pictured would be worth close to that price!!

So, SHOW US these $1000 breeding pair of yours.... it's willing buyer, willing seller.

I'll try get some photo's up tonight, i'm also willing to drop the price because they are still reletivley young (2-3 years). They are a solid deep red brown colour with red eyes about 8-10 cm round.

Hi Crew, i think everyone might of missed something! It might be 1000 bucks for all the fish. But we really need Paul to clarify details.

I have heard of a pair of Rabbit eye albino discus going for a large amount of money!

And also in theroy, a pair can pay for them selves!
eg. $1000 for a pair of fish, they have 100 babies, half of them get culled are there are 50 good ones. grown to a nice size, lets say 4 months,

$20 each X 50 fish = $1000 bucks! and in the meantime the pair have laid again!

So lets all not think that $1000 pair of fish is unbeilevable!

WOW, $1000 for a pair of rose reds.....off course a fish is worth what someone is willing to pay but $1000 for common rose reds!! Even the $20 for babies Ben mentioned is optomistic, when i import rose reds it is never more than a handful as they are very difficult to sell. Realistically small rose reds are worth about $8 to $10 as you will have to offload the majority to the lps and wholesalers. Sure some of them will be worth $20 but thats only for the few local sales you will pick up. Most people looking for red discus want melons and other pidgeon based derivitives and unfortunetly strains like the red brown type are not so easy to sell.

Hi Paul 72

I am not too sure what they are, but they are definetly not Ocean Green, since I have 4 Ocean Greens from SLS. OGs are similar with Blue Diamond. HTH

Paul, last fish you posted pictures of are possibly Red alenquer "Brown". Not a bad looking pair of fish.

Blue Diamond shape is not bad too.

I have to point out though that your Red rose pair has a beaked nose... :?

You are right they are Red alenquer's, did some research through my discus books and had an experienced friend take a look.
How does $400 sound for either pair.

And by the way thanx all for your input, you have all been a great help :D
